David Hayes is bullish Ka Ying Rising will handle his first test against multiple Group One winner California Spangle when the quality sprinters clash in Sunday’s Group Two Premier Bowl (1,200m) at Sha Tin.

A rising star destined for elite-level success, Ka Ying Rising has won six of his eight starts and bids for a sixth consecutive victory in Sunday’s HK$5.35 million feature.

The Shamexpress gelding’s rating has remarkably soared from 52 to 119, with victories in the Group Three Sha Tin Vase (1,200m) in June and Class One HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup (1,200m) last month the highlights.

Standing in his way is Tony Cruz’s stable star California Spangle, a three-time Group One victor and the city’s champion sprinter of last term.

“It is a good test, but I am pretty confident we’ll give him a good race,” Hayes said.

“I’m looking forward to it.”

Ka Ying Rising returned with an effortless win in the Chief Executive’s Cup, cruising to victory by a length and a quarter with champion jockey Zac Purton easing him down late.

Runner-up Beauty Waves has since won the Group Three National Day Cup (1,000m).

With California Spangle allocated top weight of 135 pounds, Ka Ying Rising gets into the Premier Bowl with 128 – a seven-pound drop on his first-up win.

“The weights are more in his favour than first up and the next start [in the Jockey Club Sprint], they’re even better,” Hayes said.

“He’s sort of virtually first up again – he hasn’t run for a long time. His trial [at Conghua] was a maintenance trial, but it was good and his track work’s been solid. He’s held his condition, so I’m looking forward to it.”

Ka Ying Rising has drawn barrier nine in the field of 13. Purton will chase his third Premier Bowl on the four-year-old after previous success on Aerovelocity (2014) and Lucky Patch (2021).

Hayes will also run Harmony N Blessed, a last-start Class Two winner over 1,200m at Sha Tin. Keagan de Melo will ride the eight-year-old.

50 Cent Scores First Las Vegas Residency Reportedly Worth Millions https://spinwinnersplay.com/50-cent-scores-first-las-vegas-residency-reportedly-worth-millions/ https://spinwinnersplay.com/50-cent-scores-first-las-vegas-residency-reportedly-worth-millions/#respond Thu, 17 Oct 2024 09:42:22 +0000 https://spinwinnersplay.com/?p=72389 The wins just keep on coming for the Queens emcee.

50 Cent just scored his first Las Vegas Residency, and he reportedly got a bag full of millions for it. TMZ reported on Tuesday (Oct. 15) that Fif would be getting paid up to $15 million for 6 performances live at the PH Inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Fiddy confirmed the news the same day, taking to his Instagram with a celebratory post.

“50 Cent is coming to Las Vegas!! You don’t wanna miss this‼ @50cent will be doing 6 Exclusive shows December 27—January 4 at PH Live at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Tickets are on sale Saturday,” the post reads, attached with a picture with an official title for the event that says “50 Cent: In Da Club.”

As the dates suggest, the outlet reports an exclusive New Year’s performance will be set aside to ring in 2025 with a bang in Sin City. The flyer also shows Fif’s residency has many sponsors, including his own brands, Sire Spirits and Branson Cognac.

As for the music, TMZ reports that fans attending 50’s inaugural residency can expect an adventure through the Queen’s rapper’s greatest hits. G-Unit’s fearless leader is expected to perform “In Da Club,” “Candy Shop,” “21 Questions,” and more.

But the Las Vegas residency isn’t the only business move 50 has recently made. A 50 Cent-themed escape room called “Get Rich or Read Trying” is heading to Shreveport, Louisiana’s Shreve Memorial Library for the “Fall Into the West Festival.”

Fans will be tasked with solving puzzles and riddles in an escape room based on the businessman’s life. Participants will need to solve the challenge in 60 minutes if they hope to emerge victorious.

While the festival begins on Friday (Oct. 18), the escape room will open up to the public on Monday (Oct. 21). Both the escape room and festival will take place at the West Shreveport Branch location, at 4380 Pines Road and is free and open to the public from 3:50 p.m. to 7:50 p.m.

The Tropicana crumbles as Las Vegas goes all in on sports and entertainment https://spinwinnersplay.com/the-tropicana-crumbles-as-las-vegas-goes-all-in-on-sports-and-entertainment/ https://spinwinnersplay.com/the-tropicana-crumbles-as-las-vegas-goes-all-in-on-sports-and-entertainment/#respond Thu, 17 Oct 2024 09:40:14 +0000 https://spinwinnersplay.com/?p=72386 No stranger to reinvention, Sin City is pushing to offer more high-end experiences beyond gambling: “We have moved away from being a value-based destination.

With a flash and a boom, the Tropicana went bust.

The iconic casino was torn down in the wee hours Wednesday morning to make way for a baseball stadium, part of an ongoing pivot that Las Vegas officials hope will fuel the city’s economic future as affordability concerns simmer on and off the Strip.

The 22-story resort hotel, which opened in 1957 and featured in the 1971 James Bond film “Diamonds Are Forever” and “The Godfather” the following year, closed its doors April 2. But it didn’t go down in darkness: In true Vegas fashion, the city turned the building’s 2:30 a.m. implosion into a party, replete with a drone and a fireworks display.

“It’s kind of a celebration of life for all that property has meant to Las Vegas,” said Steve Hill, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

The neighborhood where the Tropicana once stood is quickly becoming the city’s sports district, housing both Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders football team, and T-Mobile Arena, which hosts UFC, WNBA and NHL events.

After the rubble is cleared away, officials hope to start building a proposed 33,000-seat ballpark for the Oakland Athletics ahead of the team’s scheduled relocation for the 2028 season. The stadium is projected to cost an estimated $1.5 billion, with taxpayers kicking in at least $350 million.

Locals and visitors in town ahead of the Tropicana’s demolition were mostly upbeat about the next chapter for the city.

Marco Robinson, who has been tending bar in Las Vegas for four decades, acknowledged the casino’s demise was “hard for a lot of people who worked there.” But he said: “It’s a new era. This is what Vegas is.”

“I’m excited about the changes coming to Vegas,” said Jordan McCall, 30, who has lived in the city since 2010 and works at a warehouse. “You just have to embrace it,” he said, carrying a camcorder to document the property’s final hours.

Las Vegas has long sought “to make way for the new, and this is a normal part of our evolution,” said Amanda Belarmino, an associate professor of hospitality management at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, “but I think what it’s being imploded for is what’s more significant.”

The new stadium set to take the Tropicana’s place would add to a growing roster of venues and events offering high-dollar experiences beyond casinos’ card tables and concert halls.

Las Vegas welcomed 330,000 visitors in February for the Super Bowl, with tickets at Allegiant ranging from $5,700 to almost $19,000 on StubHub in the days leading up to it. Next month, the city will host its second Formula One Grand Prix, after the inaugural one attracted 315,000 fans last year at ticket prices from $99 to $12,500. NCAA basketball’s Final Four series is coming to town in 2028.

Warner Bros. recently announced an $8.5 billion plan to develop film and television studios at UNLV’s Nevada Studios. And the futuristic new Sphere arena, which opened last year, is the most expensive venue ever built in Las Vegas, costing $2.3 billion. Tickets for coming shows ranged from an “immersive concert film” by U2 starting at around $99 to more than $1,800 for some of the few remaining seats at performances by the Eagles this month and next.

“We have moved away from being a value-based destination where people could come for a really inexpensive holiday,” Belarmino said.

The Venetian Becomes the Latest Las Vegas Casino to Get in on the Food Hall Trend https://spinwinnersplay.com/the-venetian-becomes-the-latest-las-vegas-casino-to-get-in-on-the-food-hall-trend/ https://spinwinnersplay.com/the-venetian-becomes-the-latest-las-vegas-casino-to-get-in-on-the-food-hall-trend/#respond Thu, 17 Oct 2024 09:35:53 +0000 https://spinwinnersplay.com/?p=72383 Las Vegas really can’t stop opening food halls. The Venetian Resort is the latest Strip casino to get in on the action — opening a new food hall with big names next year.

The Via Via food hall will open in the former quick-service dining section near the Grand Colonnade area of the resort’s casino floor in mid-2025. Its biggest get is the second Las Vegas location of All’Antico Vinaio, the sandwich shop based in Florence, Italy — and known for its round-the-block lines, square slices of schiacciata bread, and sandwiches piled with cured meats and cheeses. The sandwich shop also has a location at Uncommons.

James Beard Award-nominated chef Mason Hereford will open two of his New Orleans restaurants in the food hall. Turkey and the Wolf will debut at Via Via with oversized braised collard green sandwiches and empanadas stuffed with chicken pot pie while Molly’s Rise and Shine will offer quick-service breakfast options.

Other restaurants joining the food hall include Los Angeles hot chicken restaurant Howlin’ Ray’s, New York’s Scarr’s Pizza, izakaya and noodle shop Ivan Ramen, and cocktail bar Close Company — a spin-off of LA’s Death & Co.

Chef Ray Garcia is revitalizing his B.S. Taqueria, which used to serve chile-rubbed al pastor and chorizo tacos at the Sundry food hall at Uncommons. That food hall closed just one year after opening.

Via Via is hardly the only food hall to anticipate in the coming months. Miracle Mile Shops at the Planet Hollywood casino plans to open Miracle Eats this winter. The food hall will have locations of Fat Sal’s, Tacotarian, Carnegie Pizza, Dave’s Hot Chicken, Lobster Me, and Fat Tuesday. And Caesars Palace is in the midst of converting its generic food court into a celebrity chef-studded food hall with Esther Choi’s Mokbar, Buddy V’s Pizzeria by Buddy Valastro, and Tortazo by Rick Bayless all opening later this year.

And Via Via joins other new additions coming to the Venetian as part of the resort’s $1.5 billion reinvestment project. Next year, chef José Andrés will move his Bazaar Meat steakhouse from the Sahara Las Vegas to the Palazzo at the Venetian Resort and both California-based Gjelina and the Michelin-starred Cote Steakhouse are planned to open.

It looks like the Las Vegas food hall trend may be here to stay.

A man from Sheridan, Montana, hit a $600,022 jackpot Saturday, Oct. 12, at Caesars Palace, the hotel said in a news release. He was at a High Card Flush poker table for less than an hour when he won with a six-card straight flush. A straight flush happens when cards are in sequential order and all in the same suit. His winning cards were a 9, 10, jack, queen, king and ace.

The lucky poker player traveled to Vegas for a football game but left over a half-million dollars richer.

The second poker player was on vacation at the gambling destination from Knoxville, Tennessee, the hotel said. She sat at a Crazy 4 Poker table at the same casino on Oct. 13 and won the $216,682 jackpot. The woman scored big with a royal flush, the rarest hand in the game, according to Upswing Poker. Her winning cards were a 10, jack, queen, king and ace. The lucky gambler told the casino she plans to spend her money on a home and to travel with her children. Caesars Palace is famous for its Roman architecture. The hotel and casino is on the Strip.

What Casino Games Do the British Play Most? https://spinwinnersplay.com/what-casino-games-do-the-british-play-most/ https://spinwinnersplay.com/what-casino-games-do-the-british-play-most/#respond Thu, 17 Oct 2024 08:40:28 +0000 https://spinwinnersplay.com/?p=72374

The UK has loved a little gamble for a very long time and has a very rich history of gambling and betting over the centuries. Bookmakers and gambling games have played a large part in British culture, which is why land-based casinos and, of course, more recently, online gambling platforms are everywhere.

We take a look at some of the most popular gambling games in the UK that British players love to get stuck into.

Table of contents

  • Poker
  • Slots
  • Blackjack
  • Roulette
  • Baccarat
  • Sports betting

Poker

Poker is a skill-based game played against other players, starting as a niche card game and growing in popularity online. The early 2000s saw a significant increase in online poker, making high-stakes games and poker tournaments more accessible to a much wider audience. This ultimately led to increased interest in the game.

Today, the top sites to play poker in the UK offer a wide variety of poker game variations, including Seven Card Stud and Omaha variants. Texas Hold’em is one of the most popular variants played in the UK due to its relatively simple rules and strategic depth.

Other variations like Omaha and Seven Card Stud have a dedicated player base, particularly in tournament settings. Such platforms also include popular online poker tournaments and typically provide fast withdrawals, attracting more and more British players to join.

Slots

The Brits have had a very long love affair with slots, or as we used to call them in the UK, fruit machines, before the Americanisation of the term online.

They were first introduced in pubs back in the 60s and 70s, with tens of thousands of them across the country, mostly in pubs, casinos, arcades, and bookmakers.

Now that they’re available online, more people than ever are playing them around the clock and from multiple device types.

Research suggests that at least 5% of Brits still prefer traditional fruit-themed slots over more modern video slots, despite advances in technology, themes, innovative features, bonus rounds, and the rest of it.

👉 According to the UK Gambling Commission, the regulatory body for all online casinos targeting UK players, the number of average monthly active accounts for online slots increased by 7% to 4.2 million between January and March 2024.

Additionally, the number of spins being made increased by 12% in the last quarter, reaching a new peak of, believe it or not, 22 billion spins.

Blackjack

The game of blackjack, also referred to as 21, has long held a special place in British casinos and is by far one of the most popular table games amongst British players. This is probably due to its combination of skill, fast thinking, and luck, making it a thrilling game.

Its popularity in the UK can be traced back to the 1960s when casinos were first legalised. The game’s simple rules and potential for strategic play keep it popular amongst British gamblers.

🤵‍♂️ And, of course, there’s the association with James Bond—not that he was particularly a blackjack player, but he certainly helped promote the ‘sophisticated’ casino scene as a whole.

The most popular types of blackjack variations are European Blackjack and American Blackjack, generally played with multiple decks to minimise card counting and increase, or decrease the odds of winning, depending on how you look at it.

Live dealer blackjack online is also very popular, and as technology advances in this area, so does its popularity.

A little fun fact for you: while card counting is often thought of as being an American thing, it was actually a British mathematician, Ed Thorpe, who first laid the groundwork for card counting techniques. He used advanced mathematics and computer simulations to analyse the game of blackjack and gained a significant advantage over the house by doing so.

Roulette

Roulette has been a popular choice for many years, with British players preferring European Roulette over the American variant. The European variant has a single zero, providing players with better odds than its American counterpart, which has an additional zero.

You’ll find European roulette tables are far more common in UK land-based and online casinos.

Live dealer roulette is the most popular among UK online players, with 22% of players preferring live dealer roulette online compared to playing in physical casinos.

This technology allows them to experience a real roulette table with professional dealers and the ability to interact with other players.

The Gambling Commission’s report shows that roulette is the second most popular online casino game after slots. The average number of monthly active players for roulette is 1.2 million.

The report also revealed that online roulette accounts for 13% of the total UK gambling market’s Gross Gambling Yield (GGY), generating £520 million alone between April 2022 and March 2023. That is 65% of the GGY for online casino games.

Baccarat

For some reason, Baccarat has always been thought of as a high rollers’ game—probably another James Bond attribution—but it is, in fact, very popular with British players from all sorts of income brackets, and it’s certainly not just a high rollers’ game.

Many high-end London casinos and other major UK cities feature exclusive Baccarat rooms. You’ve also got Mini Baccarat, which is accessible to more players, boasting simplified rules, minimum bets, and generally more enjoyable gameplay.

Players find Baccarat appealing because it’s quite fast-paced with a low house edge.

Live dealer Baccarat is popular in the UK, although not as popular as blackjack or roulette. A majority of UK players agree that the gameplay speed is just right.

With mobile gaming increasing in popularity all the time, more and more British players are using their phones to log in and have a flutter on Baccarat, regardless of where they are.

Sports betting

Although sports betting is not a specific casino game, the UK’s love for sports naturally extends to sports betting. It has become increasingly popular since the integration of sports betting with traditional online casino game offerings.

👀 Several online casinos offer in-play betting, allowing players to place sports bets on several different sporting events.

Virtual sports, which simulate athletic events using random number generators, are particularly popular among UK players. These games provide players with the excitement of sports betting combined with the instant gratification of casino games.

Football remains the most bet-on sport in the UK, with Premier League matches drawing massive betting volumes. In 2019, the betting volume for football was at 76.8%, however, horse racing, tennis, and boxing saw much higher betting volumes in the same year.

Conclusion

Gambling has been a popular recreational activity in the UK for centuries. From the strategic depth of poker and blackjack to the excitement of sports betting, these casino games highlight how diverse the preferences are of British casino players.

Each casino game provides players with a unique blend of skill, chance, and above all, entertainment. While the UK has a strict regulatory system regarding gambling, online casinos, as well as land-based establishments, are widely accepted as mainstream leisure in the country.
